SOC Prime on Discord: Join a Single Community for All Cyber Defenders to Benefit from Shared Expertise

In February 2023, SOC Prime launched its Discord server community connecting aspiring cybersecurity enthusiasts and seasoned experts in a single place. The community serves as the world’s largest open-source hub for Threat Hunters, CTI and SOC Analysts, and Detection Engineers — anyone having a genuine passion for cybersecurity. Currently, our Discord server hosts over 1,500 users, with the community continuously growing and doubling its size each quarter.

One Live Community for Cyber Defenders

Attackers have long been collaborating to strengthen their offensive capabilities, while defenders are used to acting on their own. They frequently collect threat intelligence from multiple sources without sharing it with peers due to a lack of trust or legal concerns. This leaves cyber defenders out on an island and poses daunting challenges to keeping up with emerging threats.

By networking with peers in an open-source community, members can learn from each other’s experience and hone their skills in multiple technologies. In addition, information exchange streamlines the identification of emerging threats and enables prompt adjustments to defense strategies. To outpace adversaries, defenders need a knowledge-sharing community where they can collaborate by sharing new behavior-based detection algorithms and threat intelligence.

SOC Prime’s Discord serves as a peer-driven community connecting cyber defenders with different levels of maturity, performing versatile professional roles, and trained in diverse security solutions — a single place where seasoned experts willingly share their expertise and insights with enthusiastic newcomers, which creates the Green Team environment fostering a culture of open knowledge exchange. Here, the community members can master their SIEM or EDR skillsets, access peer reviews of alert logic, keep a finger on the pulse of the ever-changing threat landscape, and engage in live discussions in versatile community channels.

Over the course of July 2023, the most visited Discord community channels were those covering the latest news and emerging threats, channels for Threat Bounty Program members, and Uncoder — a space for news and discussions covering SOC Prime’s industry-first IDE for threat-informed defense to code, validate, and share detection ideas.

With the steady Discord server growth, the number of topics discussed is also increasing to reflect the needs of cyber defenders and boost the sense of community. In addition to the professional aspects of discussions, cyber defenders are also willing to have more spaces to unwind and interact with their peers on other topics, like hobbies or subjects covering psychological well-being, which is getting in the limelight in recent years among cybersecurity professionals due to the growing stress rates and burnout issues. In May 2023, we launched the #cyber-mental-health channel that aggregates useful resources to provide support for the mental well-being of community members and encourages them to have engaging discussions with peers in a trusted environment.

Tap into the power of SOC Prime Discord community to engage in animated discussions with your peers, advance your hard skills, and foster community growth while always keeping abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends.
